The Cornbelt Fire Protection District, located in Mahomet Illinois, seeks qualified individuals for our full-time Shift Captain position process. The Cornbelt Fire Protection District is a full service, customer service-focused fire department that provides Fire, Rescue and Advanced Life Support services to a population of over 18,000 residents. Under the general direction of the Fire Chief, the Shift Captains are company level officers and have supervisory authority over those individuals within their command and /or all employees with respect to their assignment. The Shift Captain supervises his/her assigned unit and is not responsible for the overall management of the District. Shift Captains are expected to follow and model the core values and the mission statement of the Cornbelt Fire Protection District. Shift Captains shall report directly to the Fire Chief for day-to-day operations. This position will work a 24/48 shift. This position includes a competitive salary, health care benefits, paid time off and Illinois Article 4 Downstate Fire Pension and union contract.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualities:
 
  • A minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in a like or larger fire department with a minimum of four (4) years of fire officer experience
  • Maintain an Illinois Department of Transportation Class B License.
  • Possess or ability to obtain Basic Operations Firefighter Academy within one (1) year.
  • Possess or ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) within one (1) year.
  • Knowledge of modern firefighting and emergency medical techniques and problems, and application thereof.
  • Ability to evaluate tactical and operational requirements.
  • Considerable knowledge of fire hazards and firefighting resources such as personnel, water supply and communications.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and supervise the work of subordinates.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports including accurate filing on all Incident Reports and Addendums.
  • Conduct all orders and assignments given by higher ranking Officers.
  • Must build teamwork and cooperation with Firefighters and other Officers.
  • High moral and ethical character
Desirable Training and Experience:
  • Work experience with a volunteer, paid on call or combination fire department.
  • More than four (4) years of Fire officer experience in a like or larger department.
