Fire destroyed several homes that were under construction and threatened at least one that was occupied in a McKinney neighborhood Saturday evening. Firefighters are still putting out hot spots in the Wilmeth Ridge development on Marigold Drive, northwest of Lake Forest Drive and Highway 380. Video shared with FOX 4 showed thick black smoke rising from the seven homes that were under construction.

PHOTOS: The largest class ever of Boston firefighters, including one woman, graduated on Friday at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. VIDEO: A group of hikers from out of town had to be rescued on Camelback Mountain's Echo Canyon trail on Thursday. Firefighters said a large group from a women's retreat began hiking the trail around 7 a.m. with each person only having one small bottle of water. The heat became too much for them around noon so they called rescuers.

A family of six and two other people are without a home this morning after a fire in a Franklin County home this morning. Franklin County firefighters say the fire began around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning at the intersection of Metcalf Rd. and Sagemoor Rd. When crews arrived they said the fire had spread to a nearby power pole and crews had to tend to the pole before the house.

Wednesday, Gov. Andy Beshear ceremonially signed House Bill 562, relating to mental health for first responders. The bill establishes 48 hours of time off for police officers and firefighters following critical incidents. The bill also redefines a critical incident. It includes officer-involved shootings, serious vehicle crashes, the death of a colleague or partner and other circumstances.

UT Health East Texas EMS paramedics will teach roughly 20 EMTs from Guam this summer about specialized clinical training to become accredited in advanced life support techniques. “They're going to experience high performance 911 training through UT Health East Texas EMS and receive training from paramedics who are actively working in the field,” said TC Howard, chief operating officer of the School of EMS, which helped coordinate the effort.

One hundred years ago, on a distant Feb. 16 evening, a blaze erupted at the Prospect School. The tragedy that occurred during the blaze has become a part of village lore. A plane carrying 126 people caught fire after landing at Miami International Airport Tuesday, leaving three people hospitalized with minor injuries. Red Air Flight 203 from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, had landed around 5:30 p.m. when the landing gear in the nose of the plane collapsed, Miami International Airport officials said.

Every traffic light in St. Charles County will soon automatically turn green for first responders heading to emergencies — the latest move in a $17 million effort to create "smart intersections" across the county. Emergency vehicles now get priority at 210 of the more than 350 traffic lights in St.

An important event for first responders is scaling back this year. Texas A&M Extension Service (TEEX) announced their Spanish Fire School will no longer be happening in-person. The loss of this year's Spanish Fire School is a disappointment for TEEX as well as tourism officials. Bob Shank's mother asked him to help run Shank's Tavern in Marietta in 1968, which got him involved in the family business and Lancaster County's oldest tavern established in 1814. Four years later in 1972, Shank had to deal with the aftermath of the destruction wrought by Tropical Storm Agnes. Shank recalled in detail what the tavern looked like in the wake of the storm.

Gettysburg Fire Department Firefighter Doug Kahn recently packed up his gear and jetted off to Israel for a week as part of the Emergency Volunteer Project (EVP). EVP is a nonprofit rescue program whose mission is to be able to deploy aid and volunteers to Israel at a moment's notice. Through a partnership with the Israeli government, EVP has trained thousands of volunteers across the United States and Israel.

A cross was all that remained of Balsora Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Texas, after a fire swept through the building Friday, leading to a response from a dozen area agencies. Several agencies were heavily engaged with a massive fire that broke out at a tire yard in Montebello Friday morning. The fire was first reported just after 2:15 a.m. on Bluff Road near Maynard Road, prompting a long battle between firefighters and the massive flames. A terrifying fire engulfed an eight unit condo that was under construction and surrounded by numerous occupied homes Wednesday. The fire happened near 5301 East Commerce Way and about 8 units under construction were affected by the fire, according to the Sacramento Fire Department. Automakers reported nearly 400 crashes over a 10-month period involving vehicles with partially automated driver-assist systems, including 273 with Teslas, according to statistics released Wednesday by U.S. safety regulators. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration cautioned against using the numbers to compare automakers, saying it didn't weight them by the number of vehicles from each manufacturer that use the systems, or how many miles those vehicles traveled.

Junior firefighters are one step closer to having access to improved training after the House unanimously approved a bill by Rep. The Gianforte Administration has declared a statewide disaster due to destructive flooding in southern Montana. The announcement came from Gov. Greg Gianforte's social media Tuesday morning and an email to press. The executive order was signed by Lt. Governor Kristen Juras as acting governor. MTN has learned that Gianforte is out of the country and gave Juras delegated authority to act on his behalf in response to flooding in the state.

An investigation is underway to determine how a large fire spread through a Kilgore hotel Monday night. Multiple fire crews were called around 8 p.m. to the Best Western Inn of Kilgore, located on business Hwy 259 near Walmart. A collaboration between three Butler County communities is the first in the region to provide a vehicle to be used exclusively to protect first responders at crash scenes. Engine 6 is an eight cylinder Detroit diesel with a manual transmission and a 500 gallon tank. During the night of June 8-9, 1972, Shift 1 — consisting of firefighters Brassfield, Tish, McGinnis, Nordstrom and Houska — manned the 1971 American LaFrance.

Members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department were caught in the line of fire during what they described as a deadly drive-by shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon on the Westside. According to Hawaii County officials, a tourism helicopter reportedly crashed in a lava field near South Point on Wednesday. K&S Helicopters who operates Paradise Helicopters said the incident happened at about 5:29 p.m. while their aircraft, a Bell 407, was operating a tour. Preliminary information said that five passengers and one crew member were onboard.

VIDEO: Six inmate firefighters were injured when a flash fire occurred in the back of their crew vehicle while working in the Castaic area Tuesday morning. The incident was reported about 11 a.m. near the Golden State Highway and Templin Highway, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “A flash fire occurred in the back of an inmate camp crew vehicle,” Fire Department officials said in a tweet hours after the incident.

Baltimore County has approved restarting a program to incentivize police, firefighters and paramedics to delay future retirements and extend their careers. The benefits incentive, known as a Deferred Retirement Option Program, won't have an immediate effect in curbing departures from public safety agencies, as the change applies to hires made after July of 2007, who aren't eligible for retirement until 25 or 30 years of service.

An apartment fire that destroyed a six-unit complex on Beach Avenue in Atlantic Beach early Tuesday morning spread to a home that was just 5 feet away, causing severe damage to that home also, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said. In an expansion of their fleet, the Honolulu Fire Department now has nine new trucks. HFD held a Hawaiian blessing at ‘Iolani Palace for the trucks, each given Hawaiian names. Five buildings were destroyed during a fire at a former cereal factory in Orange Saturday. According to State Fire Marshal's Spokesperson Jake Wark, crews were called to 16 West River Street at around 11:45 a.m. Saturday for reported smoke and flames at the vacant mill building. Four additional buildings were also on fire, including one on East River Street.

VIDEO: Dispatchers in Volusia County can now see an emergency in real time using a video 911 system the sheriff's office unveiled this week. Sheriff Mike Chitwood said they're just starting to use it and an incident on Thursday is a great example of when Volusia residents would need it. Indianapolis firefighters stopped a man with a knife who attacked them after chasing a woman into an east side fire station on Saturday. At around 1 p.m., a firefighter was backing his fire department vehicle into a bay at IFD Station 11, located at 1715 E. Within the past week, four more members of the FDNY have died of 9/11-related illnesses. Supervising Fire Marshal John McCauley and firefighter Robert Reynolds passed away on Saturday. The Junction City Fire Department is hoping to stop bullying starting with schools in Boyle County. Firefighters said after incidents in their own community and now the tragedy in Texas, the department is hoping to change lives, one student at a time. It is called “Firefighters Against Bullies.” The program was started in Pennsylvania by a group of firefighters hoping to draw awareness to schools and to build an anti-bullying program.

It was the single biggest loss of life in the history of the Houston Fire Department. Nine years ago, the Southwest Inn fire ultimately claimed the lives of five firefighters. The four firefighters who died on the scene were Robert Bebee, Robert Garner, Mathew Renaud, and Anne Sullivan. In March 2017, Captain Bill Dowling, who lost both of his legs in the fire, died of complications from the injuries sustained in the line of duty.

May 28, 1977 is a date that may never be forgotten in the Tri-State. 165 people were killed and hundreds more were hurt in a fire at the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Southgate, Kentucky on that date. A firebug is wreaking havoc in south Sacramento, setting more than a dozen fires during the month of May near the same intersection. The city of Charleston is having trouble retaining employees, especially those outside of the police and fire departments. These workers, often referred to as “non-sworn” or “civilians,” are leaving at a higher rate than in years past, according to an internal survey conducted by the city.
